The amount of airbags being fitted in cars today continues to increase.

Does the increasing amount of airbags in modern vehicles, increase the risk to firefighters?

The November 2018 issue of UK Fire Magazine included an interesting article on this subject written by Ian Dunbar. Ian is a technical and medical rescue consultant and was in the Fire and Rescue Service for 19 years specialising in technical rescue and trauma care.

Ian’s article highlights the the fact, that despite there being only one recorded incident of a firefighter being injured in this way, concerns regarding the deployment of airbags during rescue extrication remains a hot topic!
